Chapter 3: Taking a Closer Look
(This is section 3 of 3 in this chapter)
Summary
Access provides you with great flexibility not just in entering data, but also in working with tables as a whole. In this chapter, you have learned how to effectively use Design view. In addition, you now know how to copy, rename, and delete entire tables.
Before you move on to Chapter 4, make sure you understand the following key concepts:
- Design view lets you change an existing table's structure. Access presents information in the Design view window in much the same way as it does in the Datasheet window.
- Data types specify the type of information that is stored in a field. Using the correct data types helps Access to efficiently store information in a table.
- As you design your table, you can and should add comments to your fields. These comments help you remember the purpose of the fields and document any additional information about them. Comments do not affect the way Access functions.
- Each field possesses properties or characteristics which indicate how Access should process it. The types of properties available for a field depend on the data type of the field.
- Using the Database window, you can copy, rename, and delete entire tables.
In Chapter 4, you will learn how to create a table from scratch by using Design view.
